Sonora Pamela Wendt

Two and a half years ago my brother and sister-in-law gave birth to a beautiful girl Sonora. When Sonora was a few months old her mother Kalynn called in concern for Sonora's developement. Sonora was not meeting the general milestones like rolling over and reaching for objects. I remember assuring Kalynn that every child develops at different paces, (thinking she had FIRST TIME MOTHER SYNDROME). You know what I am talking about....calling your doctor everytime your baby burps funny or sneezes!

I learned an important lesson a few months later....Mothers always have a knack for knowing when something just isn't right. You feel something is off, but you can't put your finger on it.

Well, after many doctor visits, Kalynn and Justin recieved a diagnoses for Sonora, Mitochondria simplex 1.

"Mitochondrial diseases result from failures of the mitochondria, specialized compartments present in every cell of the body except red blood cells. Mitochondria are responsible for creating more than 90% of the energy needed by the body to sustain life and support growth. When they fail, less and less energy is generated within the cell. Cell injury and even cell death follow. If this process is repeated throughout the body, whole systems begin to fail, and the life of the person in whom this is happening is severely compromised. The disease primarily affects children, but adult onset is becoming more and more common.Diseases of the mitochondria appear to cause the most damage to cells of the brain, heart, liver, skeletal muscles, kidney and the endocrine and respiratory systems.Depending on which cells are affected, symptoms may include loss of motor control, muscle weakness and pain, gastro-intestinal disorders and swallowing difficulties, poor growth, cardiac disease, liver disease, diabetes, respiratory complications, seizures, visual/hearing problems, lactic acidosis, developmental delays and susceptibility to infection."

I am asking for your help and support for my beautiful neice Sonora who is affected by this heart-wrenching disease. Anything you can do is greatly appreciated!

Bye Bye Beer Lady

On Thursday Abby, Ellie, Jade(steph's child), Bear, and I went on a walk around the block. As we were coming home our neighbor lady was outside having a beer. I chatted with her for a while then we made our way home. Our neighbor lady brought over icecream for the kids and we offered her a beer. As she was leaving, Ellie of little words SCREAMED out, "Bye Bye Beer Lady"!!! Ryan and I turned to each other and said, "did she just say bye bye beer lady"????

Our neighbor turned around and almost fell to the ground laughing.

The best part of the night is that our neighbor could not get a word out of her all night!

Summer

Our summer has been extremely fun and extremely busy!

Abby is the only girl on her soccer team. At first I was a little nervous that she would be left in the dust. Boy was I wrong. I think she is more aggressive when she runs with the boys! In fact, she scored her first goal last Monday! Of course we had to celebrate, so Culvers it was!

Detailed Forecast
Thursday Night: Rain and Thunderstorms. Some Thunderstorms may be severe especially south of Fargo Moorhead. One to Three inches of Rain is expected from this system in many areas. Flash Flood Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service. Low: 55°. Wind: Northeast 10-25 mph.

Mud Mud go away

We moved into our new house March of 2007. Of course when you get into a house, you let pride and money set in. We thought " we can do ALL this on our own", not thinking that this too takes ALOT of time! Instead of hiring a landscaping company, we wanted to save a few thousand and do it ourselves!

A year later... this is our beautiful landscaping!

Don't get me wrong, Ryan is a hard worker and I love him dearly. The only problem is he is gone ALOT with work. He is a pilot for the air guard, which requires him to stay overnight, when his jet breaks : (We were suppose to sod last weekend, but mother nature is not being cooperative. We thought lets lay the sod this weekend..... again mother nature plans on dumping 3 inches on Fargo Moorhead area. Oh and we are also in a flash flood watch! Looks like a no go for this weekend, maybe next :)

Having no lawn probably would not bother me too much if Abby's basketball didn't roll into the mud every time she missed the basket....

My Title

Welcome to my blog!! Well I am sure you are wondering where the title of my blog came from...

I decided on "Stallions and Pancakes" after watching my 3 year old daughter Ellie scarf down 4 pancakes! Then I realized that I should name the blog after my two wonderful daughters aBbY and eLliE.

Abby is a very creative, highly energetic 7 year old.. hence the name Stallion.... she is also obsessed with horses. In fact since she could talk, becoming a horse jockey is her dream. There is not a day that goes by that she does not ask how she can become a horse jockey! She is my little tomboy. Getting dirty IS necessary for her!

Ellie on the other hand is extreme opposite. She is my little lady! Loves everything pink and everything pancake! She is an extremely picky eater. When all else fails, here come the pancakes! Hence the name pancake!
